Hoffman Benjamin W., Sellers R. Drew y Skomra Justyna en su artículo The Impact of Client Information Technology Capability on Audit Pricing (October 2017), sostienen: “Our main findings suggest that clients with strong IT capability incur higher audit fees.  (…) sophisticated IT environments require additional audit effort and the need for more specialized and expensive technical resources from audit firms.

―(…)  We find that firm size has a moderating effect on the association found in our primary results: IT capability has a stronger positive association with audit fees for larger firms compared with smaller firms.  (…) our findings indicate that companies with stronger IT capabilities pay higher audit fees in a given year. (…) For instance, it is possible that companies with superior IT capability may be better able to adapt to exogenous shocks, including new auditing or accounting regulations, than companies who lack strong IT capability. Thus, we see on average that the difference in audit fee growth attenuates as, over time, all companies adapt to the impact of new requirements.  Also, our additional analysis suggests that larger companies with strong IT capability will pay disproportionally higher audit fees than smaller firms with strong IT capabilities.  (…) ― Finally, as external auditors continue to increase their use of IT in their financial statement audit work, how their clients’ IT systems support the external audit and the effect that has on pricing becomes more important. System integration with these audits may be a factor related to our results; we leave it to future research to disentangle these effects. (…)”.
